C programming can be a powerful tool for many diverse fields of science. As for engineering c programming is just a "must."

When you go to college and major in engineering you will probably take programming courses as much as your major courses (with a bit of exaggeration).

Some people actually do a minor in computer science just so that they can be better with their actual major.

The reason why C programming is important is because it allows the scientists to run infinitely large number of experiments by devising a program based on their needs.

It does somewhat depend on the specific field of engineering field you end up choosing but in general, you can fairly say C programming skills is what actually makes engineer's ideas 'work.'

    Hope that helps :)
