The Entner-Doudoroff pathway was discovered by Nathan Entner and Michael Doudoroff. This pathway describes an alternate series of reactions that catabolize glucose to a pyruvate and a glyceraldehyde-3 phosphate using enzymes that are different than the enzymes used on glycolysis or the pentose phosphate pathway. The interesting feature of this pathway is the cleavage of 6-phosphogluconate to yield pyruvateand glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate.
