mostly used to describe the difference type of respiration in bacteria.
Aerobic respiration is the one that repuire oxygen for metabolism and cannot live without it,example such as pneumonia.many of these bacteria cause respiratory illnesses.
Anaerobic is the one that do NOT require oxygen. There are also two types of Anaerobic respiration,Obligate and Facultative.
Obligate carry on metabolism ONLY anaerobically, they cannot use oxygen, and are poisoned by it. E.g: denitrifying bacteria.
Facultative can use oxygen for metabolism(cellular respiration) if is available, but carry on metabolism anaerobically(by fermentation) when necessary. E.g:botulism,as well as tetanus

Aerobic respiration is the release of energy from glucose or in the presence of Oxygen. Anaerobic respiration refers to the oxidation of a molecule (or molecules) to produce engery in the absence of oxygen.

Respiration is a molecular process that breaks down glucose and produces wastes products and energy. If the respiration is carried out in the presence of oxygen it is called aerobic respiration and produces a great amount of energy, and carbon dioxide and water as waste products. If the respiration is carried out without the use of oxygen it is called anaerobic respiration and produces small amounts of energy, and alcohol, or lactic acid or other compounds as a waste product depending on what kinds of cells are active.
