How accurate are forecasts?

For most parts of the world, weather forecasts for 12 to 24 hours in advance are correct about 87 percent of the time; for 24 hours in advance they're correct about 80 percent of the time; and for 3 to 5 days in advance they're correct about 65 percent of the time (up from 55 percent in the mid-1980s).
