What is military time?

Military time divides the day into a continuous set of 24 hours, counting from midnight of one day (0000) to midnight of the following day (2400). Military time is written without punctuation.

Midnight is 0000 hours (or 2400 hours of the next day)

1:00 a.m. is 0100 hours (pronounced oh-one hundred)

2:10 a.m. is 0210 hours

Noon is 1200 hours

6:00 p.m. is 1800 hours

9:45 p.m. is 2145 hours

It is relatively simple to convert military time into familiar time. To translate the morning hours, one need only add the punctuation, use the word "o'clock" instead of "hours," and add the suffix "a.m." To translate the afternoon and evening hours (times later than 1200 hours), in addition to the steps outlined above, subtract 1200 and add the suffix "p.m." For example, if you start with 1900 hours, subtract 1200 to get 700 hours.
