The Andromeda Galaxy is the galaxy closest to our own Milky Way galaxy. The Andromeda is estimated to be 2.2 million light-years away from Earth. (A light-year is the distance light travels in one year, about 5.9 trillion miles.) Bigger than the Milky Way, Andromeda is a spiral-shaped galaxy. It is the only galaxy other than the Milky Way that is visible in the night sky without a telescope.
