"Living stone" is the name given to various succulent (swollen, moisture-containing) plants from the stony deserts of South Africa. These plants resemble pebbles, mimicking their surroundings. Each shoot or plant is made up of two grossly swollen leaves that are virtually fused together. Large, daisylike flowers blossom in the area where the pair of leaves is joined.
