What is the first wildflower to bloom in the spring in the Northern United Stated?

The first flower of the northern spring is unusual and interesting, but rarely seen. That's because it blooms in swamps. Commonly called skunk cabbage (Spathyema foetidus), it appears in February. The first spring flower that blooms in the woods of New England and the Middle West in March or early April is the liverleaf (genus Hepatica).
