Where does a luffa sponge come from?

Luffas, sometimes spelled "loofahs," are nonwoody vines of the cucumber family. The interior, fibrous skeletons of the fruit are used as sponges. Other names for the luffa include: dishcloth gourd, rag gourd, and vegetable sponge.
