Correct positioning of the body at a computer is essential to preventing physical problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome (a painful condition that affects the forearms and wrists) and back pain. You should sit so that your eyes are between 18 and 24 inches (45 and 61 centimeters) away from the screen and at a level of 6 to 8 inches (15 to 20 centimeters) above the center of the screen. You should type with your wrists straight, rather than tilted upward. It is best to place the keyboard at a position that's lower than a standard desktop.
Correct posture is also important. You should sit upright, keeping your spine straight. Sit all the way back in the chair with your knees at the same height as, or below, your thighs. Both feet should be on the floor. If you need to bend or lean forward, do so from the waist.
