What items should be included in a household first aid kit?
According to the American Medical Association, a first aid kit should contain:
- Antiseptic cream
- Antiseptic wipes
- Aspirin or an aspirin substitute such as acetaminophen
- Adhesive bandages
- Elastic bandages
- Gauze bandages
- Triangular bandage
- Calamine lotion
- Flashlight
- Foil blanket
- Hydrogen peroxide or Rubbing alcohol
- Roll of sterile cotton
- Round-ended tweezers
- Safety pins
- Snub-nosed scissors
- Syrup of ipecac (dried roots that induce vomiting in cases of poisoning or drug overdose)
