What first aid remedies may be used for bee stings?

For persons not allergic to bee stings, the following steps may be taken. The stinger should be removed by scraping with a knife, a long fingernail, or a credit card, rather than by trying to pull it out. A wet aspirin may be rubbed on the area of the sting to help neutralize some of the inflammatory agents in the bee's venom. Do not apply the aspirin if the person is allergic or sensitive to aspirin taken by mouth.

A paste made of meat tenderizer (or other product that contains the enzyme papain) mixed with water will relieve the pain. Adults may take an antihistamine along with a mild pain reliever such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or acetaminophen.

If the victim is allergic to bee stings, seek medical help immediately.
