Which scientific and technological event was the most important in U.S. history?

The first moon landing is widely considered the most important scientific and technological event in U.S. history. On July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong (1930-) and Buzz Aldrin (1930-) of the Apollo 11 mission became the first humans to set foot on the moon.
