What was the United States' first national park?
The U.S. government authorized Yellowstone National Park as its first national park on March 1, 1872. Yellowstone is located mostly in Wyoming, with parts of the park extending into Montana and Idaho. It is the largest national park in the United States, with 3,472 square miles. Yellowstone is home to Old Faithful, the world's most famous geyser (natural hot spring that ejects steam and hot water). There are more than 200 geysers and hot springs located in Yellowstone, which is a greater number than those existing in the rest of the world combined.
