The Pollutant Standard Index (PSI) is a measure of concentrations of pollutants in the air, in parts per million. It was developed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in conjunction with the South Coast Air Quality Management District of El Monte, California. PSI measurements are used to inform the public about potential health effects due to air quality. They have been in use nationwide since 1978.
