What is the Netplex?
The Netplex is the name given to a geographical area around Washington, D.C., that has become the world center of the data communications industry and the Internet. Businesses in the Netplex build and manage optical fiber networks, sell Internet connections, and offer other computer services. The Netplex has been compared to other "technology centers" such as California's Silicon Valley and North Carolina's Research Triangle (where there is a large concentration of corporations involved in the telecommunication and computer industries).
