Which area of the United States has the greatest number of bridges?
Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, which contains Pittsburgh, has more bridges than any other county in the United States. In fact, with the possible exception of Venice, Italy, Allegheny County may be considered the bridge capital of the world. There are more than 1,700 bridges in Allegheny County's 731 square miles (1,892 square kilometers). The county has 2.3 bridges per square mile or one bridge for every mile of highway. There are approximately 564,000 bridges throughout the entire United States.
