The speed of a land snail was recorded in 1970 as 0.00758 miles (40 feet [12.2 meters]) per hour. The fastest moving species of land snail is probably the common garden snail (Helix aspersa) which moves at 0.03 miles (158.5 feet [48.3 meters]) per hour.
