Experiment 1
Capturing Solar Energy: Will seedlings grow bigger in a greenhouse?

Purpose/Hypothesis

A greenhouse is a passive solar collector, allowing light energy to pass through while blocking the escape of heat. The locked-in heat and moisture from watering create a warm, humid environment similar to a rain forest. In this experiment, you will build a greenhouse and determine whether it helps seedlings grow faster and bigger. Clear plastic will be used as the walls of the greenhouse because it allows the light in and traps the heat.
