Anything a person can combine is a mixture. Mixtures with varying compositions are called heterogeneousDifferent throughout, meaning that they have different appearance and properties at different points in the mixture. For example, a mixture of oil and water is a heterogeneous mixture. The two substances form layers because of their different chemical properties, and one part of the mixture will have a higher concentration of oil, while another part of the mixture will have a higher concentration of water.
