Using the Scientific Method: Do fruit flies appear out of thin air?

Purpose/Hypothesis

In this experiment, you will test Aristotle's assumption that fruit flies are created spontaneously—from nothing. You will determine whether the flies are present in all air and can appear anywhere or whether they are attracted from other places by rotting fruit.

First, form a hypothesis about the outcome of this experiment based on your understanding of fruit flies and bananas, the fruit you will use in this experiment.
