Earth's daily tides are caused both by gravity and our planet's spinning movements. Both the Sun and Moon produce a gravitational pull on

Earth. Yet because the Moon is closer to Earth than the Sun, it has about double the gravitational force as that of the Sun, which means it has about double the influence on the tides.
