Penicillin is a microscopic mold that grows on fruit. It looks green and powdery and is shaped like a small paint brush when viewed under a

microscope. The word, penicillin, in fact, means "small brush" in Latin. Early writing was often done with a small, fine-pointed brush, and the English words pen and pencil are also derived from this Latin word.

In this experiment, you will determine the best growing conditions for the penicillin mold. You will place one set of fruit in a warm location and another set in a cool location. The difference in the amount of mold that grows will tell you whether temperature affects penicillin growth.
