Experiment 1
Slime: What happens when white glue and borax mix?

Purpose/Hypothesis

In this experiment, you will mix two substances to see if a chemical reaction occurs. The chemical name of one of the substances, white glue, is polyvinylacetate. You will mix the polyvinylacetate with borax, a laundry booster (sodium borate). Borax is a natural mineral, found in the ground. It's made of boron, sodium, oxygen, and water. It is used to strengthen the cleaning power of laundry detergents.

To begin the experiment, make an educated guess about what will happen when you combine these two substances. Will there be a chemical reaction? Will it produce a new substance? If so, what might the substance look like? This guess, or prediction, is your hypothesisAn idea phrased in the form of a statement that can be tested by observation...
