Law in Society Award Competition

(Undergraduate/Prize)

Purpose: The Virginia State Bar and its Litigation Section sponsor the contest for Virginia high school students to increase awareness and appreciation of the legal system. Participants write an essay in response to a hypothetical situation dealing with legal issues affecting them. Awards are given to students whose essays show a superior understanding of the value of law in every day life. The top ten entries are awarded prizes. 1st place receives $1,000 U.S. Savings Bond or $500 cash. 2nd place: $750 U.S. Savings Bond or $375 cash. 3rd place: $500 U.S. Savings Bond or $250 cash. Seven honorable mentions: $100 U.S. Savings Bond or $50 cash. Application available at Web site: http://www.vsb.org. Qualif.: Applicant must be: full-time student. High school students considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Virginia Law Student Writing Competition

(University/Prize)

Purpose: Cash awards for the best article dealing with a legal issue of interest to corporate attorneys. Must be full- or part-time student in good standing at any Virginia law school or a resident of Virginia attending law school outside of the state with proof of residency. Deadline for submissions is February 15. Focus: Law/Legal Services Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.
