Department of Human Resources Federal Stafford Loan with the Service Cancelable Loan Option

(Four Year College, University/Loan)

Purpose: Forgivable loans of $4000 are awarded to current Department of Human Resources employees who will be enrolled in a baccalaureate or advanced nursing degree program at an eligible participating school in Georgia. Loans are cancelled upon two calendar years of service as a registered nurse for the Georgia DHR or any Georgia county board of health. Focus: Nursing Qualif.: High school students not considered. Georgia National Guard Service Cancelable Loan Program

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Loan)

Purpose: Forgivable loans will be awarded to residents of Georgia maintaining good military standing as an eligible member of the Georgia National Guard who are enrolled at least half-time in an undergraduate degree program at an eligible college, university or technical school within the state of Georgia. Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens. Award available to members of the following branches of the military: Air National Guard, Army National Guard.

Funds Avail.: Minimum no. of awards: 200. Maximum no. of awards: 250. Minimum award amount: $150. Maximum award amount: $1821. Georgia Nursing Faculty Scholarship Program

(Four Year College, Postgraduate, University/Loan)

Purpose: Renewable award that offers financing in three nursing education tracks: Baccalaureate to Master's, Master's to Doctorate, and Post Master's Nursing Education certificate. After completion of program, applicants may either serve as a faculty member in Georgia in a board-approved LPN, AND, and/or BSN nursing program for a designated number of years to cancel the loan or repay the loan with interest. Recipients must teach for one (1) year for every $2,500 received from the program, for a maximum of five years. Contact for further details and eligible institutions. Intellectual Capital Partnership Program, ICAPP

Purpose: Forgivable loans will be awarded to undergraduate students who are residents of Georgia studying high-tech related fields at a Georgia institution. Repayment for every $2500 that is awarded is one-year service in a high-tech field in Georgia. Can be enrolled in a certificate or degree program. Focus: Trade/Technical Specialties Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Purpose: Forgivable loans of $3,000 are awarded to students who agree to serve for one calendar year at an approved site within the state of Georgia. Eligible applicants will be residents of Georgia who are studying nursing at a Georgia institution. Focus: Nursing Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Purpose: Up to 100 forgivable loans between $2,500 and $4,500 will be awarded to undergraduate students who are residents of Georgia studying nursing at a four-year school in Georgia. Loans can be repaid by working as a nurse in northeast Georgia. Focus: Nursing Qualif.: Applicant must be: full-time student. High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Purpose: To assist Georgia students enrolled in critical fields of study in allied health (e.g., nursing, physical therapy). For use at GSFA-approved schools. $3500 forgivable loan for dentistry students only. Contact school financial aid officer for more details. Teacher Preparation Recruitment Initiative

(Four Year College, University/Loan)

Purpose: One-time award targeted at preparing second career candidates to become teachers in high-need schools. Awards will be available up to $5000. Institutions participating in the pilot program include: Albany State University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Georgia State University, Georgia Southern University, East Georgia College, Georgia Southwestern State University, Valdosta State University, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Waycross College, and South Georgia College. Within six months upon completion of the program, the individual will become a teacher and repay the scholarship by working in a school district and school that faces a serious teacher shortage. Focus: Education Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.
