Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship-New York

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University/Scholarship)

Purpose: Award for outstanding high school seniors accepted to U.S. college or university. Based on SAT score and high school average. Minimum 3.5 GPA required; minimum 1250 combined SAT score from one sitting. Must be legal resident of New York and a U.S. citizen. Renewable for up to four years. General Education Degree holders eligible. Qualif.: Applicant must be: full-time student. High school students considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Regents Health Care Scholarships for Medicine and Dentistry

(University/Scholarship)

Purpose: Scholarship for New York resident beginning or already enrolled in an approved medical or dental school in New York. Up to 80 awards in medicine and 20 in dentistry. Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Award recipients must agree to practice in designated areas of New York. Priority given to economically disadvantaged members of minority groups underrepresented in the professions. Focus: Health and Medical Sciences; Dental Health/Services Qualif.: Applicant must be: full-time student. High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens. Award available to the following races: Native American/Eskimo; African American; Hispanic.

Regents Physician Loan Forgiveness Award-New York

Purpose: Renewable award for New York resident licensed to practice medicine in New York. Must be within two years of completing residency or have completed residency within last five years. Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Must practice medicine in a designated area of New York. Focus: Health and Medical Sciences Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarship

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University/Scholarship)

Purpose: Scholarship for New York residents beginning or already enrolled in an approved degree-bearing program of study in New York that leads to licensure in a particular profession. See the Web site for the list of eligible professions. Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Award recipients must agree to practice upon licensure in their profession in New York for 12 months for each annual payment received. Priority given to economically disadvantaged members of minority groups underrepresented in the professions. Focus: Architecture; Law/Legal Services; Nursing; Accounting; Landscape Architecture; Engineering/Technology; Dental Health/Services; Interior Design; Psychology; Pharmacy; Health and Medical Sciences; Social Services Qualif.: Applicant must be: full-time student. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Scholarship for Academic Excellence

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University/Scholarship)

Purpose: Renewable award for New York residents. Scholarship winners must attend a college or university in New York. 2000 scholarships are for $1500 and 6000 are for $500. The selection criteria used are based on Regents test scores and rank in class. Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Qualif.: Applicant must be: full-time student. High school students considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.
