In 2008 Tourism Cares is offering 30 Named Scholarships, which include 29 scholarships and one internship.

Each scholarship has different eligibility criteria and requirements. Some are for undergraduate students only and some are for graduate students only. Nearly all of these scholarships are for students studying at an accredited college or university in either the United States of Canada. The exception is the Sustainable Tourism Scholarship, which is available to a student studying at an accredited college or university anywhere in the world. Generally, the Tourism Cares 2008 Named Scholarships are in the amount of $1,000 USD.

In 2008 the Mayflower Tours Patrick Murphy Internship will go to a student, who is pursuing a travel and tourism degree with an interest in political science at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada. The intern will be working in the office of Stephen Richer, the National Tour Association Public Affairs Advocate, in the Washington, D.C. (Alexandria, VA) area. This internship covers the fall semester 2008 (with specific dates to be arranged between the student and the office) and includes a $2,000 personal stipend to offset part of the travel and lodging expenses.

In 2006 Tourism Cares will also award scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500 in 10 U.S. States: California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, and Utah. One school in each state administers these scholarships. They are available to students who are both attending that school and are permanent residents of the state in which the school is located. The contact person can provide applicants with specific scholarship information and application forms. Applications for 2008 are due BEFORE 5PM EST April 1st, 2008 and should be sent directly to the contact person..

Some of the criteria the applicant must meet are:

1) attending the school that is administering the scholarship,
2) being a permanent resident of the state in which the school is located,
3) having a 3.0 GPA, or better, on a 4.0 scale,
4) having a degree emphasis in a travel and tourism-related field, and
5) entering junior or senior year of undergraduate study at a four-year college (having completed 50% of degree requirements).
