Hugh J. Andersen Memorial Scholarships

Purpose: One-time award is for Minnesota residents attending an accredited U.S. medical school. Candidates must be underrepresented minority students enrolled beyond their first-year in an accredited U.S. medical school. Candidates must demonstrate outstanding leadership, community service, and financial need. Students must be nominated by medical school deans and must submit personal essays. Purpose: Thirty-five fellowships available to first through third-year underrepresented minority students attending accredited U.S. medical schools who have demonstrated academic achievement and show promise for careers in bio-medical research and academic medicine. Fellows spend eight to twelve weeks working in a major research laboratory. Must be nominated by the dean of the medical school. One-time awards of $6000 each. Henry G. Halladay Awards

Purpose: Five one-time awards available to African-American men who have been accepted into the first-year classes of accredited U.S. medical schools and demonstrate exceptional financial need as well as having to overcome significant obstacles to obtain a medical education. Awards supplement National Medical Fellowship's general need-based scholarships. There is no special application for these awards. Recipients are selected from applicants of the need-based scholarships. The NMF need-based applications are available online or through medical school. W.K. Kellogg Fellowship Program in Health Policy Research

Purpose: Student must be a U.S. citizen; African-American, Hispanic, Native-American, or Asian with a demonstrated commitment to medically underserved areas; committed to working with underserved populations upon completion of doctorate; and willing to complete relevant dissertation research. Student must also be accepted or enrolled in a doctoral program in one of the following participating schools: The Heller Graduate School at Brandeis University, the Joseph L. Mailman School of Public Health of Columbia University, the Harvard School of Public Health, the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, the RAND Graduate School, the UCLA School of Public Health, and the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Award will provide a yearly stipend to cover tuition, fees, and living expenses for up to five years.
