Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Scholarship)

Purpose: Aim of this program is "to promote student excellence and achievement and to recognize exceptionally able students who show promise of continued excellence." The scholarship is available to graduating seniors and graduates of GED programs who will be entering college as freshmen. Minimum 3.6 GPA required. Award restricted to Montana residents. Deadline is March 1. Qualif.: High school students considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Funds Avail.: Minimum no. of awards: 22. Maximum no. of awards: 23. Minimum award amount: $1500. No. and Amount Awarded Last Calendar Year: 24 scholarship(s), totalling $36,000. United States Senate Youth Program-The William Randolph Hearst Foundation

(Four Year College, University/Scholarship)

Purpose: Two high school juniors or seniors from Montana have a weeklong orientation in Washington, D.C. on the operation of the United States Senate and other components of the federal government. Potential awardees compete for the scholarship by taking a 50-point test, then the top ten applicants answer 5-7 questions in a video presentation. Scholarship money is given directly to school each student attends. Must be currently serving in a high school government office.
