Purpose: The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation provides funds for the award of a number of research grants in aid of research in the Hemingway Collection. Grants are in the range of $200 to $1000. The purpose of these grants is to help defray living, travel, and related costs incurred while doing research in the Hemingway Collection. Scholars and students are invited by the Kennedy Library and Library Foundation to apply for these research grants. Grant applications are evaluated on the basis of expected utilization of the Hemingway Collection, the degree to which they address needs in the Hemingway and related studies, and the qualifications of applicants. Preference is given to dissertation research by PhD candidates working in newly opened or relatively unused portions of the Collection, but all proposals are welcome and will receive careful consideration. Focus: Literature/English/Writing; Social Sciences; Humanities Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Purpose: Each year in the spring and fall, The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation provides funds for the award of a number of research grants in the range of $500 to $2500. The purpose of these grants is to help defray living, travel, and related costs incurred while doing research in the textual and non-textual holding of the Kennedy Library. Scholars and students are invited by the Kennedy Library and Library Foundation to apply for these research grants. Grant applications are evaluated on the basis of expected utilization of available holdings of the Library, the degree to which they address research needs in Kennedy period studies, and the qualifications of applicants. Preference is given to dissertation research by PhD candidates working in newly opened or relatively unused collections, and to the work of recent PhD recipients who are expanding or revising their dissertations for publication, but all proposals are welcome and will receive careful consideration. Application deadlines are March 15 and August 15. It is intended to support a scholar in the production of a substantial work in the area of foreign intelligence and the presidency or a related topic. The successful candidate will develop at least a portion of his or her work from original research in archival materials from the collections of the John F. Kennedy Library. Focus: Political Science Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Purpose: Essay contest open to all high school students, grades 9-12. Students in U.S. territories and U.S. citizens attending schools overseas may also apply. Essay must be original work; attach bibliography. Essay must be no longer than 1,000 words. All essays will be judged on the overall originality of topic and the clear communication of ideas through language. Essayist must have an English or History teacher as nominating teacher. Winner and their nominating teacher are invited to Kennedy Library to accept award. Winner receives $3000, nomination teacher receives grant of $500; second place receives $1000 and five finalists receive $500. Purpose: The Schlesinger Fellowships carry a stipend of up to $5000, which may be awarded to a single individual or divided between two recipients. They are intended to support scholars in the production of substantial work on the foreign policy of the Kennedy years, especially with regard to the Western Hemisphere, or on Kennedy domestic policy, with regard to racial justice and to the conservation of natural resources. Successful candidates will develop at least a portion of their work from original research in archival materials from the collections of the John F. Kennedy Library and related materials. Proposals are invited from all sources, but preference will be given to those from applicants specializing in the areas indicated above. Preference is also given to projects not supported by large grants from other institutions. Focus: Political Science; History Qualif.: High school students not considered.
