Japan Foundation Artists Fellowship

(Undergraduate/Fellowship)

Purpose: Several one-time fellowships to provide artists such as writers, musicians, painters, sculptors, stage artists, movie directors, performance artists, and curators the chance to pursue creative projects in Japan and to meet and consult with their Japanese counterparts. Recipients will receive a monthly stipend ranging from 740,000 yen to 2,220,000 yen. Focus: Literature/English/Writing; Performing Arts; Interior Design; Art History; Arts; Filmmaking/Video Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens. Award available to employees or relatives of employees within the following industries: designated career field.

Purpose: Ten one-time awards for doctoral candidates in the humanities and social sciences, as well as in other disciplines, who are conducting comparative research projects and need the opportunity to conduct research in Japan. Must submit language evaluation. Recipients will receive a monthly stipend ranging from 340,000 yen to 4,340,000 yen. Focus: Humanities; Social Sciences Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Research must be related to the social sciences or humanities. Recipients will receive a monthly stipend ranging from 840,000 yen to 5,160,000 yen. Focus: Humanities; Social Sciences Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Purpose: Ten one-time awards for scholars, researchers, and professionals who wish to conduct research in Japan for short-term periods ranging from 21 to 60 days. Research must be related to the social sciences or humanities. Recipients will receive a per diem ranging from 357,000 yen to 1,020,000 yen, which is based on length of research. Focus: Humanities; Social Sciences Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.
