(Postgraduate, University/Prize)
Purpose: Biennial competition for the best book on Harry S. Truman or the period of his presidency, published between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2005. Five copies of each book entered must be received by January 20, 2006. Award given in even-numbered years. Winner announced in May of even-numbered years. Focus: History; Political Science; Economics; Historic Preservation and Conservation Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Harry S. Truman Library Institute Dissertation Year Fellowships

Purpose: One-time award for graduate students who have completed their dissertation research and are ready to begin writing. Research should be related to the history of the Truman administration and the public career of Harry S. Truman. Preference given to projects based on extensive research at the Truman Library, but since research is presumed to be complete, there is no requirement of residence at the Library during the fellowship year. Must submit curriculum vitae, prospectus or introduction, and tentative time schedule for completion. Focus: History; Political Science; Economics; Historic Preservation and Conservation Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Harry S. Truman Library Institute Research Grants

Purpose: Bi-annual, one-time award for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to use the Library archival facilities on Truman-related topics for one to three weeks. May only be used for travel and expenses. Application deadlines are April 1 and October 1 and results are announced six weeks later. Submit curriculum vitae and description and justification for project, not to exceed five pages. Focus: History; Political Science; Economics; Historic Preservation and Conservation Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Harry S. Truman Library Institute Scholar's Award
(Postgraduate/Grant)
Purpose: One-time award offered in even-numbered years to a scholar who is engaged in a study of the public career of Harry S. Truman or some aspect of the Truman administration or of the U.S. during that administration. Scholar's work must be based on extensive research at the Truman Library. The award is intended to free the applicant from teaching or other employment, but will not exceed $30,000. Submit informal proposal by December 15 of year preceding the one in which award is available. If selected, submit budget, time-line, and other forms by February 15. Focus: History; Political Science; Economics; Historic Preservation and Conservation Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Harry S. Truman Library Institute Undergraduate Student Grant

Purpose: Award to support an undergraduate senior writing a thesis on a Truman-related topic to come to the Library and conduct research. Intended to offset expenses incurred for that purpose only. With application, student must include a description of, and rationale for, the project and indicate how the research experience will contribute to the student's future development as a scholar or in an applied field. Deadline: December 1. Project description and proposal not to exceed five pages in length. Letter of support from faculty adviser required. Focus: History; Political Science; Economics; Historic Preservation and Conservation Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.
