Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program

(Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: Merit-based, renewable scholarships of up to $1,500 annually for graduating high school seniors. Superior academic performance is the primary criterion for the award. Qualif.: High school students considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Educators for Maine Program

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University/Loan)

Purpose: Loans for residents of Maine who are high school seniors, college students, or college graduates with a minimum 3.0 GPA, studying or preparing to study teacher education. Loan is forgivable if student teaches in Maine upon graduation. Awards are based on merit. Focus: Education Qualif.: Applicant must be: full-time student. High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Maine Dental Education Loan Program

(University/Loan)

Purpose: Program is intended to increase access to dental care to underserved populations in Maine by providing need-based dental education loans to Maine residents. Forgivable loans available up to $20,000 per year for 4 years. Loan forgiveness rate is 25% per year of service. Recipients must provide dental services regardless of patient's ability to pay. Maine Dental Education Loan Repayment Program

(Postgraduate/Loan)

Purpose: Program is intended to increase access to dental care to underserved populations in Maine by providing repayment of dental education loans for dental service providers. Recipients must provide dental services regardless of a patient's ability to pay. Repayment is available at the rate of $20,000 per year of services for up to 4 years for outstanding education loan debt. See Web site for details. Award available to employees or relatives of employees within the following industries: designated career field.

Maine State Grant

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Grant)

Purpose: Scholarships for residents of Maine attending an eligible school, full time, in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Washington, D.C., or Vermont. Award based on need. Must apply annually. Complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid to apply. One-time award of $500-$1250 for undergraduate study. Qualif.: Applicant must be: full-time student. High school students not considered.

Funds Avail.: Minimum no. of awards: 8900. Maximum no. of awards: 12500. Minimum award amount: $500. Maximum award amount: $1250. Quality Child Care Program Education Scholarship Program

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University/Scholarship)

Purpose: Open to residents of Maine who are taking a minimum of one childhood education course or are pursuing a child development associate certificate, associate's degree, baccalaureate degree, or post-baccalaureate teacher certification in child care-related fields. Tuition Waiver Programs

(Undergraduate/Grant)

Purpose: Provides tuition waivers for children and spouses of EMS personnel, firefighters, and law enforcement officers who have been killed in the line of duty and for students who were foster children under the custody of the Department of Human Services when they graduated from high school. Waivers valid at the University of Maine System, the Maine Technical College System, and Maine Maritime Academy. Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens. Award available to employees or relatives of employees within the following industries: police/firefighting, designated career field. To Apply: Required: application form.
