Assumption Programs of Loans for Education

(Four Year College, University/Loan)

Purpose: The APLE is a competitive teacher loan assumption program designed to encourage outstanding students and out-of-state teachers to become California teachers within subject areas where a teacher shortage has been identified or in schools meeting specific criteria identified annually. Participants may receive up to $19,000 towards outstanding student loans. Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Robert C. Byrd Scholarship

(Four Year College, University/Scholarship)

Purpose: Federally funded award is available to California high school seniors. Students are awarded based on outstanding academic merit. Students must be nominated by their high school. Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress. Qualif.: Applicant must be: full-time student. High school students considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Cal Grant C

(Two Year College, Vocational/Occupational/Grant)

Purpose: Award for California residents who are enrolled in a short-term vocational training program. Program must lead to a recognized degree or certificate. Course length must be a minimum of 4 months and no longer than 24 months. Students must be attending an approved California institution and show financial need. Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Child Development Teacher and Supervisor Grant Program

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Grant)

Purpose: Award is for those students pursuing an approved course of study leading to a Child Development Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. In exchange for each year funding is received, recipients agree to provide one year of service in a licensed childcare center. Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Purpose: The Law Enforcement Personnel Dependents Scholarship Program provides college grants to needy dependents of California law enforcement officers, officers and employees of the Department of Corrections and Department of Youth Authority, and firefighters killed or disabled in the line of duty.
