American Legion Department of Indiana, Americanism and Government Test

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Scholarship)

Purpose: One-time award for Indiana residents in grades 10-12. Must take written test during National Education Week in November. Two winners from each grade, one boy and one girl. Contact for application procedures and more information. Qualif.: High school students considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

American Legion, Department of Indiana State Oratorical Contest

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Prize)

Purpose: Oratorical contest open to students in grades 9-12 of any accredited Indiana high school. Speech contests begin in November at post level and continue on to national competition. Contact local American Legion post for deadline and application details. Qualif.: Applicant must be: age 19 or younger . High school students considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Funds Avail.: Minimum no. of awards: 4. Maximum no. of awards: 8. Minimum award amount: $500. Maximum award amount: $1200. No. and Amount Awarded Last Calendar Year: $4,100 total.
