American Legion, Department of Illinois, Boy Scout/Explorer Scholarship

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Scholarship)

Purpose: Scholarship for a graduating high school senior who is a qualified senior Boy Scout or Explorer and a resident of Illinois. Must write a 500-word essay on Legion's Americanism and Boy Scout programs. Deadline: April 30. Qualif.: High school students considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Funds Avail.: Minimum no. of awards: 5. Minimum award amount: $200. Maximum award amount: $1000. To Apply: Required: application form; essay; entry in a contest. Deadline: 4/30.

American Legion, Department of Illinois Scholarships

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Scholarship)

Purpose: Twenty $1000 scholarships for graduating students of Illinois high schools. May be used at any accredited college, university, trade or technical school. Applicant must be a child or grandchild of members of the American Legion Illinois. Awards will be based on academic merit and financial need. Applications available September 15 and must be returned prior to March 15. Qualif.: High school students considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Funds Avail.: Minimum no. of awards: 20. Minimum award amount: $1000. To Apply: Required: application form; transcript; test scores; financial need analysis; photograph. Deadline: 3/14.

American Legion Oratorical Contest-Illinois

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Scholarship)

Purpose: Multi-level oratorical contest with winners advancing to next level. Open to students in 9th-12th grades of any accredited high school in Illinois. Seniors must be in attendance as of 1/1. Fifteen prizes in the form of tuition scholarships from $75-$1,600 will be awarded. Contact local American Legion Post or Department Headquarters for complete information and applications, which will be available in the fall. Qualif.: Applicant must be: age 20 or younger Minimum no. of awards: 15. Minimum award amount: $75. Maximum award amount: $1600. To Apply: Required: application form; transcript; entry in a contest. Deadline: 1/15.
