American Legion Auxiliary Department of Michigan Memorial Scholarship

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Scholarship)

Purpose: For daughters, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters of any honorably discharged or deceased veteran of U.S. wars or conflicts. Must be Michigan resident for minimum of one year, female ages 16 to 21, and attend college in Michigan. Include copy of discharge and copy of parent or guardian's IRS 1040 form. Qualif.: Applicant must be: 16-21 years old, female. High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Funds Avail.: Minimum no. of awards: 10. Maximum no. of awards: 35. Minimum award amount: $500. No. and Amount Awarded Last Calendar Year: 20 scholarship(s), totalling $10,000. American Legion Auxiliary National President's Scholarship

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University/Scholarship)

Purpose: One-time scholarship for son or daughter of veterans who were in Armed Forces during eligibility dates for American Legion membership. Must be high school senior in Michigan. Only one candidate per Unit. Applicant must complete fifty hours of volunteer service in the community. Submit essay of no more than 1000 words on a specified topic. Qualif.: High school students considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Funds Avail.: Minimum no. of awards: 3. Minimum award amount: $1000. Maximum award amount: $2500. No. and Amount Awarded Last Calendar Year: 3 scholarship(s). Medical Career Scholarship

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Scholarship)

Purpose: Award for training in Michigan as registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, physical therapist, respiratory therapist, or any medical career. Must be child, grandchild, great-grandchild, wife, or widow of honorably discharged or deceased veteran who has served during eligibility dates for American Legion membership. Must be Michigan resident attending a Michigan school. Focus: Health and Medical Sciences; Nursing; Therapy/Rehabilitation Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Funds Avail.: Minimum no. of awards: 5. Maximum no. of awards: 20. Minimum award amount: $500. No. and Amount Awarded Last Calendar Year: 18 scholarship(s), totalling $9,000. Scholarship for Non-Traditional Student

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Scholarship)

Purpose: Applicant must be a dependent of a veteran. Must be one of the following: nontraditional student returning to classroom after some period of time in which their education was interrupted, student over 22 attending college for the first time pursuing a degree, or student over the age of 22 attending a trade or vocational school. Michigan residents only; must attend Michigan institution. Judging based on: need-25 points, character/leadership-25 points, scholastic standing-25 points, initiative/goal-25 points. Qualif.: Applicant must be: age 23 or older. High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.
