Purpose: One-time award for a second semester sophomore or junior majoring in ethnic studies, women's studies, labor studies, American studies, sociology, anthropology, history, political science, psychology, social work or economics. Must be African-American, Hispanic-American, Asian Pacific Islander, or American-Indian/Alaska Native. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Receipt of scholarship requires a ten-week internship. Must be a graduating high school senior planning to pursue postsecondary education at a four-year institution. Submit proof of parent's membership. Transcript and essay on what AFSCME has meant to my family must accompany application. Renewable award of $2000. Qualif.: Applicant must be: full-time student. High school students considered.

Purpose: Renewable award for a student majoring in political science for his or her junior and senior years of study. Must be a child of an AFSCME member. The recipient also will be given the opportunity to intern at the International Union headquarters. Minimum 3.0 GPA required. Once awarded, the scholarship will be renewed for the senior year provided the student remains enrolled full-time as a political science major.
