Alabama National Guard Educational Assistance Program

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Grant)

Purpose: Renewable award aids Alabama residents who are members of the Alabama National Guard and are enrolled in an accredited college in Alabama. Forms must be signed by a representative of the Alabama Military Department and financial aid officer. Recipient must be in a degree-seeking program. Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens. Award available to members of the following branches of the military: Air National Guard, Army National Guard.

Alabama Student Grant Program

Purpose: Renewable awards available to Alabama residents for undergraduate study at certain independent colleges within the state. Both full- and half-time students are eligible. Deadlines: September 15, January 15, and February 15. Qualif.: High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship-Alabama

Purpose: Approximately 105 awards. Must be Alabama resident and a high school senior. Minimum 3.5 GPA. Contact school guidance counselor for an application and deadlines. Qualif.: Applicant must be: full-time student. High school students considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Police Officers and Firefighters Survivors Education Assistance Program-Alabama

Purpose: Provides tuition, fees, books, and supplies to dependents of full-time police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty. Must attend any Alabama public college as an undergraduate. Must be Alabama resident. Renewable. Qualif.: Applicant must be: single. High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens. Award available to employees or relatives of employees within the following industries: police/firefighting.

Funds Avail.: Minimum no. of awards: 15. Maximum no. of awards: 30. Minimum award amount: $2000. Maximum award amount: $5000. Purpose: Scholarship not to exceed graduate tuition and fees at an approved Alabama institution. Must be full-time certified Alabama teacher enrolled in courses that incorporate new technology into curriculum. Required courses must be completed or scholarship must be repaid.
