Scheherazade is the legendary storyteller from the 'Thousand and One Arabian Nights.'' She essentially keeps herself alive by telling a story each night to her husband, the dictator/king. This brutal man has had a habit of having his wife murdered the first night after they married/slept together. But in telling her stories Scheheradaze keeps him waiting for the next one/the end of the tale she is on. She keeps this up for a thousand and one nights, until she wins her reprieve from the fate that has hung over her. Some of the stories supposedly told by her include 'Aladdin,' 'Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves' and 'The tale of the Expert Halima,' as well as 'Sinbad the Sailor.'
In contrast Cinderella is the tale of a girl who goes from rags to ritches. It is essentially a folk tale and one of course used by Disney. The word 'cinderella' has come to mean: one whose attributes are unrecognised, or one who unexpectedly achieves recognition or success after a period of obscurity and neglect. Perhaps the same can be said of Sheherazade who also achieved her recognition after a period of danger and neglect.
