i just think it was sad and nice how he asked for forgiveness even thou it was a little late.

if you have a different point of view please write and explain why.

He asks forgiveness of Elizabeth because of the veil and his principles...because it has caused the ruin of their relationship and planned marriage...because he has been shunned on a personal level for his beliefs.

I didn't have much sympathy at this point in the book for Minister Dimmesdale, it seems to be too little to late. It's clear that he has suffered greatly, but he's also caused the suffering of others, all because he is too weak to confess his sin. 

I agree that it seems a little too late but one has to take into consideration the suffering he lived through. Though he was punished by society, it could be argued that he punished himself more than anyone else could. I think he was also manipulated so much by Chillingworth that he no longer thought for himself. Had Roger not become involved, it seemed that Dimmesdale maay have confessed. In fact, Hester seemed to convince him not to do so even though he wanted to help her and his daughter.
