SAT Prep | Common Writing Errors
The four writing errors most often made by beginning writers are run-ons (also known as fused sentences), fragments, lack of subject-verb agreement, and incorrect use of object:
1. Run-ons: “She swept the floor it was dirty” is a run-on, because the pronoun “it” stands as a noun subject and starts a new sentence. A period or semicolon is needed after “floor.”
2. Fragments: “Before Jimmy learned how to play baseball” is a fragment, even though it has a subject and verb (Jimmy learned). The word “before” fragmentizes the clause, and the reader needs...
