Article abstract: The Third Crusade fails to secure control of Jerusalem but strengthens the Western presence in the Middle East for generations through its acquisition of Acre and Cyprus.

Summary of Event

Between 1096 and 1464, some nine or ten crusades went from the West to attempt to regain control of the Holy Land. There was a Peasants’ Crusade (1096-1097), a Barons’ Crusade (1096-1204), a Children’s Crusade (1212), but one of the most colorful was the Crusade of the Three Kings (1189-1192), also known as the Third Crusade.
