Article abstract: Wiesenthal, a survivor of a dozen Nazi concentration and death camps, became the world’s leading independent Nazi hunter. Between 1945 and 1989, Wiesenthal investigated and brought charges against eleven hundred Nazi war criminals. Through his highly publicized cases and publications, he added significantly to the documentary record of the Holocaust—the Nazi destruction of the European Jews—and contributed more than any other individual to bringing the Nazi perpetrators to justice and keeping the historical memory of the Holocaust alive.
