On May 28, 1758, Vice Admiral Edward Boscawen’s 140-ship fleet sailed from Halifax, Nova Scotia, carrying Major General Jeffrey Amherst’s army and arrived off Louisbourg on June 2. The French garrison numbered 3,500, supported by ten warships in the fortress’s harbor. Brigadier General James Wolfe led the British landing on June 8. Over the next seven weeks, Amherst conducted a formal siege, with Boscawen’s assistance....
