Summary of Event
The Integrative Action of the Nervous System (1906) consummated centuries of speculation and experimentation about reflexes and created a research agenda for another generation of neurophysiologists. A reflex is a stereotypical motor response to sensory stimuli. Sir Charles Scott Sherrington had the task of understanding how purposeful behavior arose out of hierarchies of reflexes.
