Article abstract: An outstanding world tennis player, Laver won the grand slam of tennis in 1962 and in 1969, the first time as an amateur and the second time as a professional. The grand slam of tennis involves winning the four major world singles’ titles in the same year: the American, Australian, British, and French championships. Laver is the only player to have accomplished this feat twice, the first to have won the grand slam since the American John Donald Budge in 1938, and the first professional player ever to have won the grand slam.
