Article abstract: Military significance: Oudinot served as a French officer for forty years including service in the French Revolution, the Napoleonic Wars, and the restoration of the Bourbon government.

Nicolas Charles Oudinot, duke of Reggio, was the commander of the select French line infantry Grenadiers d’Oudinot and from 1813-1814 commanded two divisions of Napoleon’s elite Young Guard. He received more wounds in battle than any other of Napoleon’s marshals.
