Article abstract: As the founder of the first community college for Native Americans, Ned Hatathli was a pioneer in indigenous education.
Ned Hatathli had a thorough education in both his own indigenous Navajo (Diné) traditions and mainstream American culture. However, as a young man he was more interested in the latter. He graduated from Tuba City High School, where he was the valedictorian of his class. He volunteered for the Navy after the U.S. entry into World War II and served until the war ended in 1945.
